Richard L. Stevens, age 68, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells, WI.
A celebration of life will be Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Roseberry’s Funeral Home from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Richard was born July 31, 1948 in Adams, WI to Eddie and Luella Stevens.
August 6, 1966, he married his first wife, Carol Dye. Together they had 3 children: Richard Jr., Janis and Melissia. As a family, they kept a small hobby farm of horses, beef cattle and pigs. Richard loved to ride horse with family and friends. He maintained a membership with the Walworth County Boots & Saddles Club throughout his life. Besides riding, Richard also had a passion for driving horses. His Standardbred horse and small collection of buggies and sleighs were prize possessions.
In his younger years, Richard enjoyed snowmobiling. He belonged to the local snowmobile association, where the annual snowmobile fundraiser dance was a family affair; Richard loved to dance.
On August 3, 1996, Richard married Janeane Schroeder and acquired two step-daughters, April and Crystal Witcraft. In 2004, they purchased the Litehouse Café and Beacon Bar in Adams, WI where Richard and Janeane loved to entertain and serve their family, friends and customers. Richard loved to talk, tease and make people smile and Janeane was his perfect sidekick.
Richard had a lifetime career as a truck driver. He acquired his first trucking job at Castle Rock Container in 1968, where he worked until they reconfigured. He then found himself working as an over-the-road truck driver and soon aspired to be an owner-operator. Richard was able to make this dream come true and purchased his first Peterbuilt in 1988. He continued to drive over-the-road as an owner-operator, and later in his career drove dump truck for a local excavating company, until poor health made him retire in 2012.
One of Richard’s greatest passions was ATVing. He made sure to hit every puddle on the trail no matter the size. Many memories were made on those dusty, dirty trails. As life progressed, it became more difficult to get out there and ride, but that was one thing he never gave up on.
He loved his family and spent as much time with them as he could.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie & Luella Stevens; brothers, Edwin (Gladys) Stevens & Larry Stevens.
