Stanley “Stan” John Baumel

Stanley “Stan” John Baumel, 72, of Burlington, died Thursday, July 11, 2013.

Stan was born in Wisconsin Rapids, April 11, 1941, to John and Shirley (nee Oppedesan) Baumel, formerly of Adams. He spent his early life in Sparta where he graduated from Sparta High School. He also attended a trade school in the Twin Cities. He served in the US Army.

On July 29, 2000 in Woodstock, IL he was united in marriage to Joan Ellen Zimmerman. He was a longtime resident of Burlington and was the owner/operator of Bassett Racing Wheel in Burlington. Since 2003 he spent 6 months of the year in Palm Coast, FL.

Stan loved music and played several musical instruments; he had a polka band with his wife and friends, called the Northern Echo Band and they played all over. He rode 100’s of 1000’s of miles on his Harley accompanied by his Highland Terrier Westies. Stan was a fantastic tool & dye maker; loved anything to do with motors so he could take them apart and put them back together and he also enjoyed building street rods.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, his son, Kyle Baumel of Nevada, several step-children and grandchildren; brother, Larry Baumel of Little Falls, WI; nephew, Greg Baumel of Sparta, WI, God-daughter, Jennie Massen Moore of Hudson, WI, close cousins, Carmen (Jim) Pedersen of Nekoosa, Dan (Jessie) Oppedesan of Friendship, Janis (Kent) Massen of Adams, several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the music ministry at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 417 S. Kane St., Burlington, WI 53105.

Visitation:
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Service:
A Celebration of Life with Rev. Rob Bolling officiating will be at 4:00 PM at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Daniels Family Funeral Home of Burlington WI is assisting the family.
