Steve Pappas, age 85, of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin died Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Rev. John Stake will officiate. Interment will be at the Easton Cemetery, Town of Easton, Adams County, Wisconsin.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home.
Steve was born June 6, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Phillip and Alice (Poulous) Pappas. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army in the European Theater of War. Steve landed on Utah Beach on D-Day on his 19th birthday. He later became a POW following a severe injury he suffered on November 7, 1944. He was liberated by American Forces on March 24, 1945. Steve was awarded a bronze star and other medals of honor for his service during WWII.
Steve married Patty J. Purviance on May 7, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. The couple made their home in Chicago, before moving to Glendale Heights, IL in 1967. He worked for 27 years for Spector Freight System in Hillside, IL. They later retired to Grand Marsh, WI in 1984.
Steve enjoyed playing the organ at his fatherâs Jabiru, and tending to his farm and the animals.
Steve was a member of the Adams VFW Post #6279; DAV of Wisconsin Rapids, and Ex-POWâs in Madison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steveâs name may be given to a Veteran Charity of your choice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Alice Pappas; sister, Bessie DelRusso; brother, James Pappas; and grandson, Christopher Brown.

Further survived by many nieces, one nephew, other relatives, and friends.
