Thomas W. Melton

Thomas W. Melton, age 66 of Arkdale, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at St Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Tom was born in Hinsdale Illinois on December 26, 1944 to Lewis and Anne Melton, of Lisle. He attended Saint Joan of Arc Elementary schools, Illinois Benedictine College and in June of 1967 graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana Illinois with Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Later that year he became employed by Western Electric and was an influential force in implementing the address database for E911 emergency calls.

In 1978 Tom married Maureen M. Minion on August 26th in Naperville, Illinois. After over 20 years as an engineer, Tom and Maureen opted for early retirement and moved to their summer home in Monroe Center with their four cats where Tom planned to relax and pursue his woodworking hobby. That hobby eventually turned into a booming business which included construction of several homes in the area. Additionally, Tom spent many hours building model ships which paralleled his passion for military history and coin collecting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Anne Melton and survived by the following family members; his wife Maureen Melton of Arkdale, Wisconsin, daughter Maria (Blaine) Mason of
Holmen, Wisconsin, Grandson Jeremy Mason of Holmen, sister Margaret Hagen of Chesapeake, Virginia and brother Greg Melton of Ojibwa, Wisconsin, dear friend Joseph Brozovich of Springfield Missouri, Aunt Florence Jarrell of Lombard, Illinois, numerous cousins and best-cat-in-the-world, Ladybug.

Tom wished to be cremated with a memorial service to be arranged at a later date.

    I will always remember Tom as the guy who lived on that hill in WI I went fising with and forgot to put the plug in the bottom of the paddel boat my sister went out on the water in. Tom Will be missed

    I worked with Tom on E911 and remember how he would have a software program written before the end of a meeting!

    Tom was like a brother to me and an uncle to my kids. Ever time I needed help with anything, Tom was there. He will be missed by many.
