Wilfred A. Roller

Wilfred A. Roller, age 90, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin.   Pastor Sam Downey will officiate.  Friends may call at Roseberry’s on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Interment will be at a later date at the Easton Cemetery, Town of Easton, Adams County, Wisconsin.

Wilfred was born December 27, 1921 in Adams County, Wisconsin to Maurice and Beula (Mills) Roller.   He married Martha “Joy” Elderkin on October 15, 1942 in White Creek, Wisconsin.  Wilfred worked on the family farm until 1948 when he began working for Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.   He retired in 1986, after 38 years of service.

Wilfred enjoyed traveling with his wife, Joy throughout the United States and Canada.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, and spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Friends remember him being very supportive and being a good story teller.

Wilfred was a devoutly religious man, beginning and ending his church membership at the White Creek Congregational Church.  While living in Wisconsin Rapids, he was also a member at First Congregational Church in Wisconsin Rapids.

Wilfred was preceded in death by parents, Maurice and Beulah Roller;   four brothers: Robert “Rob”, Lloyd, Ellis, and Merle; sisters: Jessie Spaude, Lois Kirchoff and Bea Kirchoff; brother-in-law, Clark Elderkin; sister-in-law, Nina (Lloyd) Roller; and nephews: Steve Babcock, Morrie Roller, Babe Williams, Gilbert Glaeser and Blackie Cook.

    I have so many memories of Uncle Wilfred in my early childhood, most of them in the summer in the silver Airstream. I always remember warm smiles and laughter during those visits to Grandpa’s (Merle’s.)
    I am very sad to hear of Wilfred’s passing, I wish so much that I had made it to Wisconsin long ago.

    Please accept our condolences. Dad called me last night to let me know of Uncle Wilfred’s passing. I was quite sad. I so wish we would be able to be there and to see you all. You are certainly in our thoughts and prayers! Uncle Wilfred has always been a delight and joy for me and my family. I have so many fond and wonderful memories! Thank you all for those treasured memories.
