Edward Baron of Friendship, Wisconsin passed away April 30, 2022, at Kirkland Crossings in Pewaukee, Wisconsin.
Ed was almost 94 years old when he died, something that he was personally amazed by. He was born June 20th, 1928 to Andrew, Sr. and Julia Baron. He was their 9th and last child that survived to adulthood. He was very close with his family and enjoyed getting together with his brothers for family gatherings or to help on projects. He loved visits from his children and grandchildren after his retirement. He received his education from the local schools in the Adams area, attending the old one room school house, and when he was 18 he joined the Army. After Basic training he was stationed in Hawaii. After his 3 years with the Army, he returned home to Grand Marsh and spent 2 years helping on his family farm and doing various local jobs.
Ed moved to Kenosha to work at AMC and while helping build his brother’s home in Kenosha, he met the neighbor’s daughter and love of his life, Angeline Schaffer. Their love blossomed, and they were married on May 5, 1956. After relocating to Milwaukee he joined the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant; a job that he loved. Ed enjoyed hard work and providing for his family. He would do extra jobs such as helping the neighboring masons as a laborer, roofing homes and repairing cars.
Together, Ed and Angie were blessed with 7 children, 6 of whom survived to adulthood. Their 4th child, daughter, Barbara, passed away at the age of 4 from cancer. Together they were excellent and supportive parents. Ed always credited Angie with being an excellent wife and a role model for their children. They were strong in their faith and members of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Parish in Milwaukee where they raised their family. He retired from the MPD after 36 years of dedicated service. Ed and Angie then built a home in and moved to Friendship, 5 miles from the farm where he was born and raised. During his “retirement”, Ed was elected to two terms as Adams County Coroner and was the Adams County Animal Control Officer for 18 years. He also enjoyed digging graves by hand at 2 local cemeteries with his good friend, Larry.
Ed and Angie were very supportive of one another. Ed was always concerned about Angie’s wellbeing and protection. In fact, he “cheated” death more than once driven by his love for Angie and his need to be there for her. They were married for almost 66 years. Ed answered God’s call to heaven 9 days after Angie’s passing. We believe he died of a broken heart, only holding on for 9 days for the sake of his children. As one grandson put it, “it wouldn’t be good for Grandpa to be away from Grandma for very long.” No truer words were ever spoken.
“Big Ed” absolutely enjoyed being outdoors and working hard. His favorite hobbies were gardening, taking care of animals and cutting firewood. He had a very large and beautiful garden which was meticulously maintained and provided a bounty of food and enjoyment for his family. He and the garden were very productive providing enough produce to donate in excess of 500 pounds of produce in good years to the local food pantry. He was very proud of it. He also enjoyed hunting with his family at the farm and taking care of the cattle. He named the cattle as if they were pets and would spend hours with them. He enjoyed all animals, but especially his dogs, Baron and Snuffy. Ed was also a member of St Jude’s League, the Milwaukee Police Supervisors Organization as well as the Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Organization.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Sr. and Julia, as well as all his brothers and sisters. He was also preceded in death by his wife Angie and daughter Barbie.
Ed is survived by his children Dr. Betty (Greg) Baron-Kuhn, Jim, Mike (Kathy), Judy (Jeff) Bulgrin, Dr. Kathy (Kim) Sawasky, Jennie (Eric) Baron-Cera; grandchildren Julie, Katie, Matt, Luke, Erin, Charlie, Kyle, Ian and Olivia; 2 great-grandsons, and numerous other loved nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
Visitation will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday May 6, 2022 at 11 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Friendship, WI. Father David Bruener will officiate. Private Interment will be held at a later date at St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery in Friendship, WI. Luncheon will be served in the church hall following the service.
“Godspeed my love until you are mine again.”
The family would like to express appreciation to all of the caregivers who meant so much to Ed and Angie and cared for them during the difficult time of the pandemic. We also cannot begin to express the extent of our appreciation and love to Marcy, Tomasa, and Ann, caregivers, who were at Ed’s bedside in spring 2021 when he beat death, and again in spring 2022 when he lost the love of his life and passed from this earthly life to his eternal resting place in heaven. Marcy and Tomasa, you are true angels on earth, caring for our father as if he were your own, showing him as well as us true love and compassion. We have all been blessed by knowing you! Thank you.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Adams County Humane Society.

My Uncle Ed was a great Man. I will always remember him as being strong, smart, and hard working. He taught me a lot about shooting guns, hunting, cutting wood, and how to do a job right. He taught me how to drive a pick up on the farm. My Uncle Ed was great at telling long drawn out funny stories. He use laugh long and hard with my Dad and other uncles when he told stories and jokes. I remember over hearing my Uncle Ed talking to my dad (Joseph Baron) one night at the farm. They thought I was asleep. My dad asked My Uncle Ed to discourage me from perusing a job in Law Enforcement. My Uncle Ed did everything he could to change my mind. He said you really have to love people and look past and forget all the bad stuff that people do. Looking back on my 20 years in Law Enforcement I should have listened. It’s sad that my Uncle Ed is the last Baron Brother to pass away, but it is a great comfort to know that he is now with his whole family in heaven. Peace to all of his family, friends, Army Brothers and Brother’s in Law Enforcement. God Bless you All.
Ed and Angeline live across the street from Us , They we’re great neighbors and will be missed. RIP Edward & Angeline.
God bless the Baron Family.

To: Ed & Angie’s Families,
It was heartbreaking to hear of the news of Ed’s passing & only 9 days from Angie’s. They are together now & peace be with them. Sending blessings to all of the families.
I worked for Sgt. Eddie at District #4 Early. I also worked with him for a few years at Summer Fest on the Midway. I was there the day he got into it with a man and after punches were exchanged, Sgt. Eddie did him in with his Sap. He was a great guy to work for in those days. He was also a very carrying person off the job as well. He also was a pretty good auto mechanic.
He will be missed by many. May he RIP.
I first met Ed the fall of 1959 when my “girlfriends” parents built a house next door to Ed and Ange .Later my girlfriend,Patricia and I got married.Pat “baby sat for some of the Baron children.During that time Ed and I had numerous get togethers in which he wanted me to apply for a job with the Milwaukee Police Department.Well I did retired 33 years later. I worked with Ed twice at summer fest on the MIDWAY words cannot describe what took place. Ed was a master gardener ,he called me one day, told me to come over to the house,he had some strawberries for me. When I got there,I saw fruit in containers on the picnic table.I ask him where the berries where, He said “on the table”. I looked again and the boxes of “plums” were strawberries. Rest in peace Ed and Ange together again.
While assigned to District Four I had the good fortune to work for Sgt Baron on the midway during the early days of Summerfest. He pulled some strings to get me there one year. He not only was a great sergeant but a great man. He was one of the sergeants that I learned from and it helped when I was promoted to Sergeant. Rest In Peace.
We’re saddened to hear about the passing of Ed and Angie. My dad and mom, Jack and Carmella Randa and us girls have so many fond memories together growing up on the north side. We share in your sorrow.
Sgt. Eddie Baron we called him as me and all the other rookie cops that were assigned to him at the 4th District station became mature knowledgeable officers thanks to Ed’s training and leadership. He was a great police officer, mentor and a truly decent human being. Deepest sympathies to Ed’s family.
I first met Ed years ago when I was a child and he was the animal officer here in Adams. I remember getting one of our cats from him. In later years he was a customer at our auto shop. We had many good conversations while he was getting his car serviced. He talked often about his wonderful wife, and what a great Mother she was. He could not say enough good things about her and how she stayed home all those years to raise the children. He was a very proud father as well and I heard over the years all the great accomplishments each of the children had. When we buried my brother he was at the cemetery preparing the grave. He had such kind words for me that day. I did not find it surprising that he passed shortly after his wife, I can’t imagine that he would want to be without her. I have missed our conversations and I can only imagine how much his family will miss him. Sending my sympathy to you all, he was a great man and will be missed by many.
I was a brand-new sergeant in the Milwaukee Police Department, and Ed took me under his wing and passed on much of his wealth of knowledge to me. He was a patient mentor and a wonderful man. He was one of my very favorite coworkers on the MPD. My deepest sympathy to the family for both of your losses
Ed and I where patrolman at Dist #1 and I cannot say anything other than Ed was a very good friend and police officer. When we became sgts and went to different station I lost a very good fiend and companion.
Baron family, celebrate a life of giving, a life well lived. Rest in peace, Eddie.
Knew your father through his role as animal control officer in Adams county. He was a very nice man, & serviced his community well. Ri
Prayers for your family during this difficult time. Ed will be missed
So sorry for your loss. Mr. Ed was one of the kindest, most wonderful people we had the honor of knowing, he will be missed.
