Anne Josephine Fasel

Anne Fasel

Anne Fasel

Anne Josephine Fasel, age 82, of Friendship, Wisconsin slipped into the arms of Jesus July 11, 2013 at the Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston, Wisconsin following a brief hospitalization.

Graveside services were held 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery in Friendship, Wisconsin.

Anne was born November 30, 1930 in Big Flats, Wisconsin to Joseph and Mary (Kaim) Kulmatycki.   She grew up in a family of four children of which she was the youngest.  Both of her parents arrived in New York by boat from Poland in the early 1900’s.  Her parents came to Big Flats and established the Big Flats Store, Resort & Bar.  As a young girl her life was working with family and her parents in their family business.

She met and married Leo Fasel in 1951 in Plainfield, Wisconsin.  They established a clinic in Wisconsin Rapids.  He was a M.D. and licensed physician therapist and Anne was his assistant.  They had two sons: Mark and David.  In 1965, they moved Mauston and established a new physical therapy clinic.  Anne was deeply devoted to her husband, her boys and family.  She always was dedicated to family members that needed a hug or helping hand and always came with food, a devotional and treats for your dog. She daily visited her sister Lil Serles for afternoon coffee and of course treats for her dogs.

Anne enjoyed trips to visit her son Mark in Alabama and regular trips in her Monte Carlo to visit her son David in Janesville.   Her husband, Leo owned his own plane, a Piper, and she and the boys enjoyed flying all over the U.S. with him, and letting his boys co-pilot.

She moved to Friendship in 1976 after her husband, Leo passed, purchasing a home on Friendship Lake.  This was her sanctuary for her dog, Xia, stray kittys, coons, possums, deer, and most recently a gray fox.

Anne retired from Family Affair Restaurant after 24 years of service to the public at which time her co-workers and friend Peggy gave a farewell party for her.

She was a quiet witness in her deep Catholic faith in Christ and was content with her lot in life.

She enjoyed nature, gardening, cooking and baking, always bringing food or a treat.  Her home was always clean and neat and those who visited joked and said you could eat off the floor.  Because she loved the water, beach, and ocean, her home was decorated in blues with seashells, lighthouses with a seaside décor.  She had a gentle and sweet spirit and was a very generous and loving lady.  She was a special lady and will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, David Fasel of Janesville; sister, Lily Serles of Friendship; further survived by many cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Kulmatycki; husband, Leo K. Fasel; son, Mark Fasel; brothers: Henry (Ruth) Kulmatycki and Edward (Elaine) Kulmatycki; brother-in-law, Frank Serles; and nephew, Randy Serles.

Memorials in Anne’s memory may be directed to David Fasel, 3124 South County Road D, Janesville, WI 53548 or Lily Serles, P.O. Box 416, Friendship, WI 53934.

  2. Irene Rathermel says:

It is with extreme sadness that I have not been aware of Anne’s illness and death..My sincere condolences to David, Lil and family..
Memories of the entire family and childhood days at this time bring back many happy years, both as children and friends of the entire Kulmatyzki family..Just a mile “down the road.”It was never too far to go to the store, or visit and be entertained by one of the family whether it was getting a few groceries, having a beer with one of the family, or just passing time with friends..I don’t think I can ever remember they were not part of our lives. There are soooo many memories of good times regardless if we were at the store buying groceries from Mary and Joe, having a beer with Ed, Elaine, and friends, after a day of hunting, or a dance that happened to be part of the evening entertainment, always a good time..
My condolences, David, Lil and family..Rest In Peace dear friend. Irene Rathermel
