Charles Hayes

Charles Hayes

Charles Hayes peacefully left this life to join the many loved family members who preceded him in death on March 31, 2020. Charles Lee Hayes was born on November 29th, 1949 in Harrisburg, PA to Lee Moyer and Mary Louise (Carst) Hayes. Charles was raised and attended school in the Duncannon, PA area. He graduated from Susquenita High School, Polyclinic Nursing School, and Frank J. Tornetta School of Anesthesia. Prior to starting his career as a nurse anesthetist, he was an officer in the Navy and served during the Vietnam war on the USS Inchon. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and nurse anesthetist. He is preceded in death by his parents, half-brother William Faust, his first wife Brenda Kay Hayes, niece Emily Porter and nephew Johnny Porter. He is survived by his current wife, Olga Hayes; daughter, Jennifer Hayes; sons, Michael Hayes (Kristin), Matthew Hayes (Lisa), Alex Hayes (Kamilla); grandchildren, Robert and Tia Washington, Ben and Rylee Hayes, Porter Hayes; sister, Eloise McGarry (John); brothers, Earl and Dale Hayes; and many nephews and nieces. He lived his life in the service of others. Charles and Olga were often found opening their doors to medical students from Brazil and family and friends from all around the world. Charles loved spending his days talking or spending time with his family, working with his “work family”, learning all the new technology, and working on his computer. He also loved working on projects. He enjoyed life-long learning and at any given time, you could find him piecing together the equipment to dig his own well, landscaping his yard, or building or remodeling his homes. In lieu of flowers or financial donations and in the spirit of the principles that Charles lived his life, we ask that you take the money and do something loving and giving to your neighbor or a loved one that is in need.

Private family services are planned. Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

  18. David & Bonnie Weingarten says:

My wife Bonnie and I were two of the first people to meet Charles when he arrived and took the anesthesia position at our local hospital in Friendship. He soon after was the one to invite us over for supper while he and his wife Olga were still renting a house in Adams. He was always the first to invite us out for lunch after a bust day at work. He was indeed a kind, gentle person who enjoyed the company and comradery of others. He could converse for hours until you forgot what your suppose to be doing that day. A more personable person I don’t think I have met. Charles, you will be missed and gone to soon. He always said he would die while he was still working. I wish that hadn’t come true.
