Douglas Alan Drake
Doug was born in 1948 to Ben and Ethel Drake. He attended East High School and graduated in 1967 and served in the Army Reserves for four years working on tanks. Doug worked as a welder for the City of Madison for 35 years. He enjoyed his job, often going above and beyond fixing things no one else could. He met the love of his life, Linda (Poast) and they married in 1969. They raised their family on the east side of Madison. Doug passed on his love for cars, motorcycles, and the great outdoors to his children. After Linda died in 2000, Doug moved to the North Woods to enjoy a simpler life. There he hunted, built furniture from his trees, and enjoyed the good life. He was lucky in life to meet and marry Maria (Reese) in 2003. Together they enjoyed the north life together. They enjoyed spending time together, whether it was archery, riding his Harley, or making the land more beautiful.
He is survived by his wife, Maria; children, Todd (Kristin) and Dana (John) and his “most precious” grandchildren: Brock, Braden and Danica Drake. Also surviving are his stepchildren Amy Reese, and Billy (Melissa) Reese and grandchildren Olivia (Gavin) Christensen and Ava Schroeder. Doug is also survived by Maureen Drake, Diana Poast, and Butch Poast and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda, his parents, Ben and Ethel Drake, Linda’s parents, Harold and Jennie Poast, his brothers Larry and Garth. Also, sisters-in-laws Sandy Drake, Kathleen Stark, and brother-in-law, David Poast.
In accordance with Douglas’s wishes, there will be no services. Interment will be held at a later date at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Madison, Wisconsin.
I love you my cousins. We have lots of fun & silly memories together. Dad would pick up Uncle Doug, each time I was sick or injured to go to hospital . He always held me while Mom was too nervous to. One of the last things Dad said to me, was how proud he was of his brother, he loved him. Maria, I was so happy he chose to spend the rest of his life with you, I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Sending all my love to you all 🙏❤️
The Drakes were our fun neighbors on the North side of Madison when the kids were born, and will remain in our memories! Sending prayers for Peace for Todd & Dana & the whole family!
I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and your family. Doug‘s kindness and the good moments he shared won’t be forgotten.
