Florence “Florie” G. Smith

Florence “Florie” G. Smith, age 83, of Hancock, Wisconsin passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

No services will be held per her request.

Florie was born November 26, 1936, in Hoboken, New Jersey to Edward and Dorothy (Ruthman) Brogan.

She married Lawrence N. Smith Sr. on August 11, 1956, in Jersey City, New Jersey. They were blessed with three sons; Lawrence Jr., Keith, and Timothy.

She was extremely motivated and hard-working and held a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime including owning a store, bank telling, and bookkeeping. Florie never truly slowed down after retirement and continued to do kitchen prep work at Tri-County Area School as well as Smiley’s Restaurant in Hancock.

She enjoyed reading, puzzles and brain teasers, game shows, observing wildlife, talking on the phone, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling her grandchildren and their pets.

She was one-of-a-kind and will be remembered for her sense of humor, thoughtfulness, generosity, strong will, and positive outlook on life. She could spark a conversation with anyone and would light up any room she walked into. She truly had a heart of gold.

At Christmas time, her granddaughter, Lauren, and her husband, Steve, informed her that she would soon be a great-grandmother to a baby boy. She could not have been more excited.

Florie was preceded in death by her parents; Edward and Dorothy Brogan, five sisters; Gloria Brogan, Edna Boerner, Dorothy Brogan, Louise Rucci, and Margaret Egbert, husband; Lawrence Smith Sr, and sons; Keith Smith, Timothy Smith, and Lawrence Smith Jr.
