Gary J. Habetler, age 76, of Colburn, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday July 26, 2026.

Per Gary’s wishes, no services will be held.

Gary was born May 13, 1950 in Racine, Wisconsin to Joseph and JoAnn(Wodicka) Habetler. Gary graduated from J.I. Case High School in 1968. He began his career working for Kohl’s Food stores in Racine where he spent the next 20 years. While at Kohl’s he met Sandra Bogues and the two were wed on April 13, 1984. After his time with Kohl’s, Gary and Sandra decided to move north to their land in Hancock, Wisconsin. Once in Hancock, Gary worked for Kwik Trip in Adams-Friendship before retiring for good in 2012.

Before and after retirement, Gary enjoyed spending time in the woods cutting wood for warm fires during the long Wisconsin winters. He loved the peace and quiet of living in the woods. Gary also enjoyed doing scratch off lottery tickets with Sandra, playing video draw poker on his tablet, and watching NASCAR. Gary especially loved playing with his John Deere tractor and watching westerns, specifically anything John Wayne.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and JoAnn, his sister MaryJo Seeger, and several beloved pets Tooey, Sam, and Bud.

Survivors include his wife Sandra, children Erik (Beckie), Michael Ackermann, Steven Ackermann, and special daughter in law Sarah; grandchildren Ethan, Abby, Isaac, Mikaila, Nikolas, Allison, and Jacob; great-grandchildren Olivia and Mackenzie.

    Sandy, so saddened to hear about Gary’s passing. He was always fun to visit with, whether it be a Friday fish fry, or just a relaxing beer together, we always found a subject to talk about. Will miss him dearly, Rest in peace my friend.

    Very sorry to see that Gary has passed away, he was a great guy, seems like yesterday he was working at Kwik Trip, he sure loved his land up in Colburn, folks like him make Adams County a great place, sincere condolences to his wife & family.
