Helen Marie Besant

Helen Marie Besant entered eternal life June 2, 2019 at Serenity House, Tomah, WI.

She was born June 4, 1920, the third child of Evelyn (Vick) and Thomas Kitchen Simons in Ishpeming, MI. She married Floyd Holman Besant January 27, 1943 and was married for 36 years until Floyd’s death in 1979. She was a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all who knew her. Helen was a people person who loved to watch her family grow throughout their lives and see their accomplishments. Her life will be remembered as the greatest gift to her family. Always a proponent of physical exercise, Helen purchased an adult tricycle when she was 60 years old and rode it faithfully each week on the bike trail for more than 30 years. The last time she rode was for her 97th birthday. In later life, she began making small beaded angels and greatly enjoyed giving them away. Helen was often referred to as “The Angel Lady” because she brought many smiles and much joy to others as she gave away more than 1,000 handmade angels to family, friends, strangers, young and old – anyone she encountered that she felt needed encouragement and uplifting.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and sister. Survivors include son, Jack (Kathy) Wonewoc, WI and daughter, Gail Blythe (Jack) Grand Prairie, TX; 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, 3 nieces and 6 nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 2:30 PM at Wonewoc United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow the visitation at 4:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Wonewoc United Methodist Church or the Hillsboro Loan Closet (St. Joseph’s Hospital).
