John G. Kolakowski

John Gerard Kolakowski, 61, of Lake in the Hills, IL, formerly of Kirkland, IL, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 17, 2026, in Arkdale, Wisconsin.

John was born on July 3, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joan Blazina and Edward Kolakowski. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Kolakowski, and his nieces, Victoria and Lora Rossi. He is survived by his children, Krystin Lemmon (Ryan), Johnathan Kolakowski (Chris), and Stephanie Kolakowski; his beloved grandchildren, Cooper, Paxton, and Amelia; his siblings, Kathryn Rossi, Edward Kolakowski Jr., and Robin Tibbits; and his former wife, Robyn Sanka Kolakowski.

John was a talented auto mechanic who dedicated his life to the automotive industry. After earning his GED and attending Lincoln Tech, he went on to build and operate his own successful business, John’s Ye Olde Garage, from 1997 to 2011.

He was well known for his mechanical skill, strong work ethic, and passion for cars. Outside of work, John loved restoring cars, racing, boating, and riding motorcycles. Friends and family will especially remember his love of the Fourth of July, his unforgettable outfits, and his ability to bring laughter and fun wherever he went.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Krystyna Twarog-Pienkowska for the love, care, and dedication she gave John over the past seven years.

John’s wishes were to be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National MS Society.

John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
