Mary Elizabeth Gieck, age 69 of North Freedom, departed to heaven free from pain on August 14th, 2022 at her home surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Hillsboro, Wisconsin on September 18th, 1952 to the late Harvey and Blanche (Callaway) Allen. Mary was United in marriage to her love, Duane “Butch” Gieck, on November 9th, 1968. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of North Freedom, The Royal Neighbors of America, and a longtime member of the Diamond Hill Homemakers in North Freedom. During her younger years, she was a member of 4-H and showed sheep at the Sauk County fair. Mary had a love of animals especially dogs and horses! Mary was a talented woman, she was an extra in a movie The Emigrants, she baked and decorated cakes for many friends and family, she could drive a Harley, roller skate and bowled on different leagues at Thunderbird Lanes. Mary was employed at a variety of occupations as a waitress, butcher, head cook and manager of a restaurant, customer service, an electrician’s assistant and could read a blueprint with no problem, she could even put together a Weber grill with her eyes shut.

Mary is survived by her husband Butch; 4 children Dominick “Nick” (Robin) Gieck, Christian “Christ” Gieck, Jessica (Jason) Milestone and Jedediah “Jed” (Dawn) Gieck; 6 grandchildren Brent, Elizabeth (Nate), Blake, Isabelle (Cole), Zander and Thomas; 1 great-grandchild on the way due in February; 4 brothers Paul (Rosemary) Snyder, David (Karen) Allen, James (Deb) Allen and Larry Allen; 3 sisters-in-law Elaine Biech, Lorraine Thompson and Doris Hooks; brother-in-law Archie Gieck; former sisters-in-law Ellen Allen and Tammy Gieck; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and MANY friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Gary Gieck, sister-in-law Nancy Gieck and son-in-law Mark Milestone.

Mary’s passing has left a void for her surviving family and friends. She was the rock her family depended on, the hot air balloon that lifted them up when they were down, she was there to share their joys and sorrows.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in North Freedom on August 27th, 2022. Visitation will be held from 9-11 and the funeral to follow with Pastor Carol Quinn officiating. A small luncheon will be held at the Legion Hall in North Freedom following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to help cover the cost of medical bills.

A heart felt thank you to everyone at the Sauk Prairie clinic, the Sauk Prairie Healthcare, St. Croix Hospice, and Roseberry’s Funeral Home.

Sad to hear this news. Mary was a great employee at Mikeโ€™s Kitchen in the 1980’s. Sheโ€™d worked for the previous owners before me and welcomed me and all the changes we made when we took over.
