Becky Smith
Rebekah “Becky” Smith, age 51, of Mauston, Wisconsin passed away Monday, February 10, 2020 in her home in Mauston, Wisconsin following a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the Bible Baptist Church in Mauston, Wisconsin. Pastor John Barker will officiate. There will be a Nightingale Tribute for Nurses. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and again on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at Bible Baptist Church.
Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin at a later date.
Becky was born October 06, 1968 in Friendship, Wisconsin to Charles A. and Karen K. (Kappel) Church. She graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1986, attended Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1987, and graduated from Viterbo University in La Crosse in 1991 with her Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Becky worked as a nurse for 29 years: 3 years at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro, Kansas; 3 years at OBICI Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia; 23 years at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, WI; and 2 years, part-time at Mile Bluff Hospital, Mauston, WI.
Becky married Stacy A. Smith on December 16, 1988 in Richland Center, Wisconsin. This marriage was blessed three children; Zachary Taylor, Kirkpatrick James, and Rachel Brittany.
Becky loved to travel, both in the United States and abroad; the trip of her lifetime was three months before her diagnosis to Paris, Venice, Florence, Siena, and Rome.
Becky was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, a member of the Worship Team, Sunday School Teacher, and participated in a short-term missionary trip to Poland with International Messengers.
Becky was supportive of her community and often supported friends and family as a patient advocate.
Becky also was kind and giving. She frequently sent care packages to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and also to the kids college friends as a way to feel home.

Becky was preceded in death by her grandparents: Austin and Maude Church, Walter and Barbara Kappel.

My prayers go out to Becky’s family. I knew Becky all her time at Mayo. She was always chipper and heart warming. She was a great nurse and would always come up and check on us in the OR and PACU. Willing to help us out always. She is truly missed but know she is home and will meet up with her again one day

I had the privilege and honor of working with Becky at Mayo. She always had a bright smile. She loved nursing and caring for others. I will truly miss her. She can now rest in peace with the Lord. God bless!
My deepest condolences to Becky’s family and friends. I had the honor of working with Becky all my years at Mayo. It’s hard to imagine I will never again meet up with her in the hospital halls or see her on her NOC rounds. Her excellent nursing practice and cheerfulness positively influenced so many of her peers, myself included, and she was very influential in my going back to school a few years ago. She will be greatly missed at MCHS. What a difference she made!
We were grieved to hear about Becky’s passing. You all have been and will continue to be in our prayers. We are so thankful that she knew her Savior and rejoice that she is in glory. We are thankful that her life was a testimony of who her God is. Thinking about you guys as you endure this grief.
I am heartbroken to hear this news. I’ve been praying for Becky. She was a client but was also someone I enjoyed visiting with so much. She had such a kind heart! I know her faith was strong and that she is now at peace and with Jesus but she will be very much missed here until we meet again in heaven. Will continue to pray for your family ♡

I worked with Becky at Mayo and I will never forget her smiling eyes her and compassionate heart.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Becky for many years at Mayo Lacrosse. She always had a beautiful smile and cheerful greeting. Her faith through this endeavor was amazing. She is a beautiful inspiration and will be missed by so many.

There are no words but to say how deeply sorry I feel for the loss of lovely Becky. I was blessed to work with her for many years and she was such an amazing nurse and an inspiration to many.
