Susan A. Pharis

Susan A. Pharis, age 72, of Arkdale, Wisconsin passed away Monday, July 19, 2021, at her home.

No service will be held per Susan’s wishes. A future celebration of life will be held. She will be cremated and buried at the Quincy Cemetery in Friendship, WI.

Susan was born July 30, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois to William and Maxine (McMullen) VanMater.
She grew up on a 300-acre farm in Wisconsin and graduated from Adams-Friendship High School.

Susan married Terry Wayne Pharis on January 17, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While vacationing in California, she met Terry for the first time, fell in love, married, and made California their new home and raised three children. They also fostered children. Susan had always said “because every child should feel love in their life”.

Susan’s greatest joy was her family. There was nothing more important than the love of family and she gave everyone plenty of it. The last five years Susan and her sister, Koko lived together where they made wonderful memories. She was everyone’s bright light. She collected cardinals and there is peace to be found in the quote, “When God sends a cardinal, it’s a visitor from heaven”.

Susan was preceded in death by her Husband: Terry Pharis; Parents: William and Maxine Van Mater; and Brother: William “Billy” Van Mater.

Survivors include her Son: David and (Andrea) Pharis of Valencia, California; Grandsons: Kyle and Dylan Pharis; Daughter: Melissa Pharis of Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin; Grandson: Taylor Roughen; Daughter: Lisa and (Aaron) Halfman of Palmdale, California; Grandson: Mannix Halfman; Granddaughters: Summer Langner and Trinity Dailey; Sister: Colleen “Koko” (Donald) Griffie of Adams, Wisconsin; Niece: Tammy (Tim) Stephan; Nephew: Tony and (Linda) Griffie; Brother: Alan and (Lori) Van Mater of Waupaca, Wisconsin; and Uncle: Eugene “Buddy” Van Mater of Adams, Wisconsin.
